Celebrate Earth's Gifts
Schedule Photos
St. Aug's & St. Mary's School has planned an arts residency which begins in January, 2009. Each classroom will select a theme under our main "Celebrate Earth's Gifts" theme. In January students will create journals with pictures and words which explore the classroom theme. Children will use their journals to create a design for a clay tile. Artist-in-Residence, Lisa Cotton, will work with our children on February 4 in each classroom to help students embellish and finalize their designs. On February 11, 18, and 25, groups of students will be transported to the Paramount Theater. The clay tiles will be made, painted, glazed, and fired at the Paramount Theater. Students will also have an opportunity to work on the wheel at the Paramount. Student journals and tiles will be on display during Pizza and Portfolio Night on March 5, 2009.

We applied for and received a $1000 grant from Target towards this residency. Target notified us on October 1. We are very grateful to Target for their generosity! We know that our students will learn to appreciate all the gifts from the earth through the residency. They will also write/draw their journals and experience creating with clay.
If you are interested in volunteering during the Paramount days please stop in or contact Ms. Elchert in the Media Center. You will get your hands dirty but it will be fun!
