Lunch Room Seating Arrangements/Class Structure
The fifth and sixth graders have an assigned table each day for lunch. Their table changes daily to provide variety and an opportunity to get to know many different people. The fifth and sixth graders will also do some partnering activities in Phy. Ed. and Religion classes. These nontraditional class arrangements will provide extra growth for your child in the areas of mentoring, respect, diversity, inclusion, and so much more. Mrs. Brown and I worked hard last year to create a successful multi-age setting and found the benefits so great that we wanted to implement some of it this year.
Winter Weather
All students are required to wear boots after the first snowfall until an announcement is made in the spring (it is not necessarily after a melting as the weather is still cold and the ground too wet-thus an announcement will be made). If students choose to play in the snow or to be sitting on the ground, then they should wear snow pants as well. Snow pants are definitely recommended if students choose to play on the tar and to keep dry. Start reminding your child to bring coats, hats, and gloves!
End of the Trimester
Our trimester ends on November 21st. That is also when students should have earned all their AR points for trimester 1. Report cards will be sent home the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Book Orders
Book orders that are being sent home today should be returned by November 13th. Remember that you may write one check to Scholastic for all orders. If you’d like to purchase books “secretly” to be used as Christmas gifts, put the order in an envelope and enclose a brief note letting me know this, and I will contact you when the books come in rather than giving them to your child.
Book-It and AR Reading
If your child is at or beyond his or her AR goal at the end of each month, he or she is also eligible for a Book-It certificate which can be redeemed for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Book-It runs from October through May.
Barnes and Noble Fundraiser
On Dec. 1, SASM is hosting a fundraiser at Barnes and Noble Bookstore. You can help raise money for our school by using Barnes and Noble vouchers to purchase books on that day. The vouchers are free! SASM will receive 20% of the profits for any purchases! You can also purchase Scrip for Barnes and Noble. Scrip can be purchased at school after Mass on Fridays. We will be offering entertainment such as an appearance by St. Nick, band and orchestra concerts, story reading and an appearance by a storybook
character. We will also be offering gift wrapping as another fund raiser. Our own students will be providing the entertainment. We hope to see you all there!
Remember to check out our school’s web site for a current list of
spelling words, links to vocabulary words, and places to
visit to study our curriculum.
