¡Hola Padres!  Hello Parents/Guardians! 

As you are aware, your child has the wonderful opportunity to learn a foreign language beginning in kindergarten.  I am extremely happy to be teaching Spanish and have high hopes as we continue to develop a great program here at SASMC! 

For our curriculum each grade has one hour of Spanish classes each week. Grades K-3 have two 30-minute class periods while grades 4-6 have an hour-long class once each week.  This amounts to about 35 hours of Spanish lessons throughout the school year for each class!  The first month or two will be mainly review for most students, but come late fall or winter we should be moving on to some new vocabulary and topics.  The curricula topics for each grade can be found listed below.  Please use this list as a tool to stay connected with your child regarding what s/he is studying in Spanish.  Also, for parents of a 3rd-6th grader: it is important to be aware that I do assign homework in varying degrees to these students (more often to 5th and 6th grade).  I do expect them to finish their work on time and be responsible for their learning outside the classroom as well.   

As the Spanish program continues to develop with each year, your child will gain a larger vocabulary base, will learn the mechanics of the target language, and learn invaluable lessons about the Spanish-speaking world.  Please encourage your child to come to each class ready and eager to learn Spanish.  With so little time in class, it is incredibly important to spend each possible moment learning and speaking in Spanish!
